Manaslu Full Circuit Trek
The Manaslu Full Circuit Trek
offers a spectacular and unique journey through one of Nepal’s most remote and
untouched regions. The Manaslu range lies to the east of the Annapurna Massif,
with the Budhi Gandaki River flowing to the east and the Marshyangdi River to
the west. This trek is ideal for those seeking an adventure off the beaten
path, as it provides the perfect blend of natural beauty and cultural
immersion.
The Manaslu Circuit Trek
starts at an elevation of 1,000 meters and reaches a high point of 5,160
meters, offering trekkers the chance to experience a wide range of flora and
fauna, from lush subtropical forests to alpine regions. Expect to encounter
pine and rhododendron forests, as well as wildlife such as barking deer, pika,
and Himalayan marmots. A variety of birds, including pheasants, ravens, and
choughs, also call this region home.
Cultural experiences are an
essential part of the trek, as you’ll pass through villages inhabited by
Tibetan-origin people, Gurung, and Tamang communities. Key cultural highlights
of the trek include Gorkha, the ancestral home of the Shah dynasty, and Manakamana
Temple, a revered site for Hindu pilgrims. The best time to embark on the
trek is between September and May.
While there are few teahouses along
the trek, Manaslu Conservation Area mandates that all trekkers be fully
supported by a trekking agency to meet government regulations. Gorkha
serves as the main gateway to the region and can be reached from Kathmandu by
bus or car in about four hours. Alternatively, you can start from Dhading
Besi, which is a five-hour drive from Kathmandu.
